The seventeenth region

What is Region17GH

In December 2025, Ghana’s President formally declared the African diaspora the country’s seventeenth region. It is a structural commitment, not a symbolic gesture.

Region17GH treats every Ghanaian abroad and every person of African descent as a stakeholder with a direct, formal connection to Ghana’s development. It bridges a historical gap that began with the slave trade and extends the spirit of the Year of Return and Beyond the Return into a permanent relationship.

From Washington to Accra, the bridge is open. To every Ghanaian and friend of Ghana in the United States, the Embassy is here to walk this new chapter with you.

If you are reading this in the United States, this is your invitation. The Embassy of Ghana in Washington is the bridge between you and your seventeenth region.
